WATCH: Anne Hathaway Talks About Wardrobe Malfunction on 'Today'

Anne Hathaway clearly wanted to create a stir with her attention-grabbing ensemble at the premiere of Les Miserables in New York City on Monday night. But, instead, she caused a frenzy by accidentally flashing photographers (without wearing underwear!) when she exited her car.

The image of Hathaway's lady parts quickly went viral, and it can be assumed that she found out about the incident not long after the photo hit the web. As Hathaway has continued doing press for Les Miz this week, she's been forced to open up about the wardrobe malfunction on a couple occasions.

"It was obviously an unfortunate incident," she tells Today in the above interview. "It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it."

Hathaway adds, "And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants, which brings us back to Les Mis, that's what my character is, she is someone who is forced to sell sex to benefit her child because she has nothing and there's no social safety net."

Of course, the real question here is why Hathaway opted not to wear any panties. (Did she not learn anything from Lindsay Lohan?)

The actress echoed similar sentiments about her response to the mishap in an interview with a reporter from Vanity Fair, which was reported by The New York Daily News.

“I was getting out of the car and my dress was so tight that I didn’t realize it until I saw all the photographers’ flashes," Hathaway reportedly said. "It was devastating. They saw everything. I might as well have lifted up my skirt for them."

As the NY Daily News article points out, there are a number of ways Hathaway could have avoided this situation (again: wear underwear), but we agree with Hathaway that it would have been more appropriate for the photographer to just delete the photo. Then again, what would Hollywood be without its sex scandals and nude pictures nowadays?
